Description
A beautiful solid silver chocolate pot in a baluster shape, resting on a circular base adorned with a frieze of fine fluting. The body, enlivened by twisted ribs and undulating sides, develops an elegant silhouette inspired by early 18th-century Regency designs.
The decoration is concentrated primarily around the spout, which is adorned with a spectacular mascaron depicting the head of a bearded faun, rendered in high relief and framed by rich foliate scrolls. This sculptural ornamentation lends the whole piece its decorative power and recalls the Regency style's taste for asymmetrical compositions and motifs inspired by nature.
The molded lid is encircled by a frieze of stylized leaves and surmounted by a finial in the form of a flower. The turned and twisted blackened wood side handle, mounted on silver ferrules, ensures an excellent grip while providing an elegant contrast to the gleam of the metal.
Through the quality of its craftsmanship, the balance of its proportions, and the delicacy of its decoration, this chocolate pot testifies to the expertise of the Puiforcat firm in reinterpreting the great French styles of the late 19th century.
