Description

An elegant solid silver tea and coffee service comprising a spherical teapot, an oblong coffee pot, and a covered sugar bowl, characteristic of the refined style developed by Jean E. Puiforcat during the Art Deco period.

The spherical teapot features a short, angular spout that extends the structured aesthetic of the set.

The more slender coffee pot has a vertical oblong body, offering a more architectural silhouette while retaining the same ringed decoration.

The more compact sugar bowl shares the same harmonious proportions and interplay of surfaces.

The pieces, with their clean lines and perfectly balanced volumes, rest on a flat base and are highlighted on their lower sections by a finely horizontal striated decoration, a subtle contrast to the smooth, mirror-polished upper sections. The geometric wooden handles introduce a warm and functional touch while accentuating the modernist rigor of the design. The flat lids are topped with cylindrical wooden finials, echoing the formal vocabulary of the handles.

Through the purity of its forms, the precision of its proportions, and the balance between polished metal and dark wood, this set perfectly illustrates the modernist and functional spirit that characterized Puiforcat's production between the two World Wars.
