Description
A superb pair of baluster-shaped ewers in the Rococo (Rocaille) style. The bodies, crafted from clear, colorless crystal, feature deep, twisted fluting that creates an elegant, helical movement.
The crystal is encased in an elaborate solid silver mount, resting on a circular, openwork, scalloped base, accented with moldings and adorned with relief ornamentation of foliage, scrolling vines, and vegetal motifs.
The upper section features an elegant silver neck, finely chased with floral patterns, acanthus leaves, and volutes. It extends into a flared, undulating spout, topped by a hinged lid crowned with a finial in the form of a leafy bouquet.
The side handle—a particularly striking feature—is tall and generously curved, defined by sinuous, dynamic lines. Entirely fashioned from solid silver, it is richly chased with foliage, vegetal motifs, and relief volutes, blending seamlessly into the upper mount.
The pieces are distinguished by the abundance and refinement of their chased decoration, which incorporates a variety of Rococo elements, including shells, scrolls, and vegetal ornaments. The contrast between the transparency of the spirally-cut crystal and the brilliance of the intricately worked silver lends this pair a remarkable decorative elegance.
