Description
A pair of rectangular terrines with softened corners, resting on fixed bases with undulating contours. Each terrine has a domed lid adorned with engraved lines and surmounted by a stylized pine cone finial resting on a bouquet of acanthus leaves.
The decoration, remarkably understated, features engraved lines, interlaced friezes, and laurel leaves, as well as an engraved monogram on the front. The pine cone finial, resting on a terrace of acanthus leaves, is the principal ornament of the set and reinforces its neoclassical character.
The removable inner lining is made of aluminum. Although aluminum is a common metal today, in the 19th century it was a rare and expensive material, used in luxury silverware for its lightness and hygienic properties.
This pair of terrines is a fine example of late 19th-century French silverware, combining functionality, quality craftsmanship, and decorative elegance.
