Description
Jean Puiforcat (1897-1945) Art Deco Pitcher, Mexican period, circa 1940
A solid silver pitcher of cylindrical form resting on a circular pedestal, fitted with a pinched spout and a spectacular openwork handle with a double circular opening, forming a geometric sculptural composition.
This piece belongs to the rare Mexican production of Jean Puiforcat, created after his move to Mexico City during the Second World War. While retaining the modernist and architectural vocabulary that brought him renown in the 1930s, the model demonstrates an evolution towards more monumental and expressive forms.
The contrast between the cylindrical purity of the body and the almost abstract treatment of the handle perfectly illustrates this phase of stylistic transition. The handle design is particularly striking visually and evokes a dialogue between late Art Deco, Constructivism, and modernist abstraction. Highly sought after by collectors today, this "Made in Mexico" production greatly enhances its historical interest and rarity.
