Description
A pair of cut and engraved crystal ewers, mounted in chased silver. The globular crystal body features an acid-etched decoration of floral garlands, foliage, and stylized branches, rendered in a satin-like reserve on a transparent ground. The lower section is embellished with diamond-point cuts and radiating gadroons, enhancing the light-catching effect.
The neck is accentuated by a silver twisted ring. The upper mount is decorated with repoussé and chased scrolls, palmettes, and dangling drops in a Neo-Rococo style. The spout is formed in a slender, mirror-polished volute, and the hinged lid is surmounted by a molded baluster finial.
The handle, with its serpentine profile, is adorned with fluting, stylized leaves, and scrolls, terminating in a lower volute. The circular foot is decorated with a chased frieze of foliage and florets, framed by concentric moldings.
A characteristic example of fine silversmithing, combining engraved floral decoration on the crystal with rich chasing on the silver mount.
