Description

Sterling silver vase Italy, Alessandria, CESA SC (hallmark 1 AL)

Circa 1970

This solid silver vase features a simple, slightly curved silhouette, resting on a polished circular pedestal that interacts with the upper rim, also polished and shiny. The surface of the body contrasts with its distinctive treatment: a matte granulation, punctuated by small, irregular hollow impressions, which enliven the material with effects of light and shadow. This decoration, both discreet and refined, gives the object an organic and contemporary character, reminiscent of natural or mineral textures. Dimensions: Neck 11 cm x 11 cm – Base diameter 6.5 cm – Height 13 cm

Material: 800/°°° silver

Poinçon de récence français : CYGNE

Weight: 240 grams

Hallmarks:

1 AL: Goldsmith's hallmark registered in Alessandria, assigned to CESA SC (now CESA 1882).

Goldsmith: Founded in 1882, CESA quickly established itself as a major player in Italian goldsmithing. In 1920, it was granted the privilege of becoming an official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy, which established its reputation in the production of luxury silverware.

During the 20th century, the company distinguished itself by its ability to combine the great Italian artisanal tradition with modern decorative research. In 1988, CESA acquired Ricci Argentieri (formerly hallmarked 20 AL), further expanding its expertise and formal repertoire. In 1994, it joined Gruppo Greggio, one of Europe's largest producers of silverware and silver-plated metal, which continues its legacy.

Origin: Northern Italy
