Description

Franco Albini - Franca Helg - "Pannocchia" Bowl. Model created in 1971, Italy.

This important sculptural bowl in 925 sterling silver features the characteristic surface of the Pannocchia pattern, composed of a multitude of rounded reliefs evoking the kernels of an ear of corn, from which the object derives its name.

This piece perfectly illustrates the dialogue between the architectural purity of form and the tactile richness of the material, an approach emblematic of Albini and Helg's work. The hemispherical silhouette, of great formal restraint, contrasts with the vibrant texture of the hammered decoration, creating a particularly expressive optical and material effect.

Produced by the renowned Roman firm San Lorenzo, the bowl belongs to a series of contemporary silver objects created in collaboration with several leading Italian designers of the second half of the 20th century. With its substantial dimensions and considerable weight of sterling silver, this example constitutes a particularly spectacular version of the Pannocchia pattern. The works resulting from the collaboration between Albini, Helg, and San Lorenzo are sought after today for their remarkable synthesis of Italian modernist design and exquisite silversmithing, placing these pieces at the boundary between functional object and domestic sculpture.
