Danish designer Henning Koppel (Copenhagen 1918-1981) first studied drawing and then sculpture with Anker Hoffmann at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts in Copenhagen. He began creating gold and silver in exile in Sweden during World War II at Orrefors and Svenskt Tenn. He returned to Copenhagen in 1945 and worked with the silversmith Georg Jensen until his death in 1981. His creations, called "New Look," had a completely new creative approach. Moving away from the decorative elements of Art Nouveau and the geometry of the Art Deco era, his works feature simple surfaces with a slightly asymmetrical and organic-looking basic form. His work was awarded gold medals at the Milan Triennale in 1951, 1954, and 1957.
