Description
This elegant set of four low double candelabra in solid silver illustrates the 20th-century taste for geometric forms and the dynamism inherited from the Art Deco aesthetic. Each piece features a sculptural architecture composed of a flat silver ribbon spiraling around an open circular base, creating an effect of continuous movement and lightness despite the density of the metal. The flared, subtly molded candle holder rests on an asymmetrical tray with softened contours that contrast with the geometric rigor of the spiral structure. The fluid lines of the metal ribbon intersect with precision, evoking both modernist explorations of volume and certain industrial influences characteristic of the 1930s to 1950s.
The design relies entirely on the interplay of curves and voids, without added ornamentation, in a spirit of formal purity typical of late Art Deco. The mirror polish of the silver accentuates the effects of light and reflections, highlighting the quality of the craftsmanship.
Each piece bears the Minerva hallmark, attesting to the silver's purity, as well as the maker's mark of Maison Esquilat, identifiable by its car wheel emblem. A beautiful decorative ensemble combining functionality and modernity, representative of 20th-century French silver production.
