Eugène CORNU, sculptor-decorator who became the creator and director of the Algerian Marble and Onyx Company of A. Pallu & Co then of his successor G. Viot. This house specialized in luxury items combining Algerian onyx, bronze and champlevé enamels. Cornu then became director of the company which took his name. After his death in 1875, H. Journet took charge under his name. Cornu's creations were presented at the Universal Exhibitions in London in 1862, 1871 1872 and Paris in 1867 where he received a gold medal for an important pair of vases in onyx, bronze and enamel. The Algerian Marble and Onyx Company also produced objects based on models by Albert Carrier-Belleuse, Charles Cordier and Louis-Alfred Barrias. Its stores were established in 1878 at 24, boulevard desItaliens, in Paris.
